Can you believe how cool this typewriter is? It’s a vintage L.C. Smith from booth #70 for $45. The inner hipster in Porsha totally wanted to buy it but that darn spacebar is a little cumbersome to work with when you don’t have thumbs.

The skies held the April showers back just long enough for us to have our 2nd Saturday Market. This was a combined event with our Dollar Days going on throughout the store. If you’ve never been here during Dollar Days – it’s worth checking out. We hold the event 4 times a year and every booth hides items for only $1 (but they’re worth more than that). This treasure hunt is quickly becoming a local favorite!
New to the store – a floor model double wheel coffee mill. Embossed on the side is Enterprise Mfg Co Philadelphia Pa. This piece recently came out of Staff’s Restaurant in Downtown Fort Walton Beach, Fl. Staff’s had been in operation for over 100 years until they closed up in 2014. This would definitely be a statement piece in a coffee shop or country kitchen!
With plenty of tea cups and saucers throughout the store, I think it’s time to schedule a tea party or two. What do you think?
They’re wonderful events to host any time of the year. Bridal shower coming up? A friend’s birthday just around the corner? Desiring a mini-reunion with old friends? Why not host your own tea party?
With so many patterns to choose from, why not let your friends choose their own cup?
Enjoy the good tea and great company that’s sure to be present. Oh and don’t forget the little triangle sandwiches!
Our tale begins as many have before… with the arrival of a new and mysterious character. In this instance it happened to be a sweet little cat that showed up one day outside the store.
Pam (one of our vendors) took great care to make sure she was fed (several times a day) as she looked quite famished all the time. Her ravenous appetite had us wondering if perhaps she was a momma taking care of kittens somewhere. Our attempts to follow her back to her home were always unsuccessful. She was quite adept at giving us the slip. Our curiosity was finally appeased one morning when tiny meows could be faintly heard within the walls and ceiling near one of our vendor’s booths. Anissa from Vintij Beach (another vendor in the store) was quick to add a helping hand and search for the source of the kitten cries.
With no easy access available to reach the kittens, we had to call in for reinforcements. Luckily Mark was there and ready to jump in. With the help of a saw and a little elbow grease, Mark was able to open up a section of the wall.
Reaching into the dark, Anissa rescued a startled and helpless kitten that had most likely fallen between the narrow walls and got herself royally stuck.
Our continued efforts to find more kittens involved lifting up ceiling tiles, climbing up on the roof and walking through the store quietly listening for more meows. After a couple days of this, we realized Momma Kitty must have moved her brood when she realized the crawl spaces above the store were not a suitable environment for raising kittens.
Anissa took our little wall kitten home to temporarily foster it until it could be adopted out. Her children had other plans and promptly fell in love with the kitten. They named her Stampy and have officially given her a forever home.
Stampy’s other siblings finally made their appearance one evening when we watched Momma Kitty trek out across the parking lot after her evening meal. Hanging out on the wood pile that belonged to our neighbors happened to be the final three characters to our story.
We now have Mama Kitty and her three new arrivals all spade and neutered. Everyone’s had their shots and even dipped for good measure. They’ve been resting from these ordeals in the store’s office.
During the day they can be found running and playing throughout the large office, making a mini mess of their kitty litter and playing king of the mountain on the office chair. While we love these kittens, we would love even more to be able to find them forever homes as well.
Mama Kitty will most likely stay with us at the store, but if anyone is interested in adopting any of the kittens – please feel free to contact us. Help us give these kittens the happily ever after they deserve.
Last night we had a great time with the DeFrance Ladies Night. Our vendors went all out supplying the complimentary food and beverages for the evening. Mark even mixed together some cucumber lemon water for the customers who didn’t partake in the complimentary wine.
Many of our customers took advantage of the special sales our vendors were running in their booths that evening. And some of our customers were lucky enough to go home with a door prize. We were giving away everything from jewelry to candles to fudge to store gift certificates (the most coveted of all).
It was a back to school theme and so many customers brought school supplies to donate. The school we donated to really appreciated all the items. They said many students will benefit from all the donations.
Overall, it was a wonderful evening that we look forward to putting on again. Our next Ladies Night will be October 9th, 2014. This will be the monthly Downtown Fort Walton Beach Ladies Night. Check out our events page for more details.
Our events include Sales, Sign Painting Classes, Ladies Night Out, Furniture Painting Workshops, Outdoor Markets and much more!
